PSA Academies officially launches Westmeath venue ahead of August Academy

By May 9, 2019No Comments

35 Intermediate (12-15 years old) players representing a number of local clubs and Wilsons Hospital School enjoyed a fantastic 2 hour high performance clinic at the school venue on Wednesday afternoon 8th May.  The event was organised to showcase the PSA Rugby Academy programme to interested players and to formally launch the Westmeath venue ahead of August’s full PSA Rugby Academy Westmeath Camp.

Head coaches Johne Murphy & Johan Taylor brought the enthusiastic group through a range of both pitch and indoor (Waefer Hall) based games and drills popular from the Summer Academies. Despite inclement May showers, the players embraced the challenges set for them, with the fantastic sports facilities at Wilson’s Hospital helping to ensure the session ran smoothly.

Under the watchful eye of Director of Rugby at Wilson’s Colin Draper, the group showed good skills and work ethic to embrace the core skills development concepts being introduced to them.  Judging by the interest in the sales leaflets distributed after the session, there should be quite a few of the group joining others from the surrounding rugby hinterland for August’s 5 day Rugby Academy.

Speaking after the session, Johne Murphy said “We were delighted to officially launch Wilson’s Hospital School as the PSA Rugby Academy Westmeath venue today.  We’ve already had a lot of bookings from the local clubs like Mullingar RFC, Virginia RFC and Longford RFC so we’re very excited about the quality players that we’ll have to work with in August.  We were delighted to showcase the programme to Colin and his players today, with the top class facilities on site proving the ideal setting.”

Colin Draper spoke on behalf of Wilsons Hospital School “It was great having Johne and Johan from PSA Academies on site today to showcase their key programme content ahead of the full Academy in August.  The interest will only build now that our players have had a chance to experience it and based on the feedback from the local rugby community, we firmly believe that the partnership with PSA Academies can deliver significant benefits for the school and local clubs involved.”
