Tignes Rugby Academy Diary – Week 2, Day 3 + 4

By July 21, 2017No Comments

Tignes Rugby Academy Week 2, Days 3 & 4 hit the midway point across Wednesday and Thursday, with the playing group fully settled and acclimatized to the Tignes experience.  This all made for happier and more engaged players, getting the most out of the high performance programme.

Wednesday morning focussed on a pitch session to assess the player’s rucking technique and the associated masterclass clinic including drills and games.

The programme moved on to Tignespace and an intensive 45 mins weights circuit, refining technique and getting the players accustomed to the level of effort involved in the age appropriate circuit designed by coach Cathal.

The afternoon saw the players back on the paddock, working hard on skills development before a flash storm hit and the players retreated rapidly to the UCPA for alternative classroom activities.

Thursday is rest day, the big reward for the players who have had 3 full on days at altitude since arriving on Sunday afternoon.

The day started with our very own yoga master Yoga and a morning session with the players.  This is an important element of the recovery programme that the group are introduced to in Tignes.

After a hearty breakfast, it was off for a hike up the mountains to experience some of the exceptional scenery to be had in the area.

Lunch saw Johan back on BBQ duty and the players enjoying a well earned ‘cheat meal’ of burgers and more beside the sun soaked lake.  Once fed and watered, the group headed back out on the lake activities, with the waterslide for over 14s and a mix of paddleboard, pedlo and kayaking for the players to partake in.

The evening continued to revolve around the lake and the fantastic sand pitches, with beach rugby, football and volleyball all played at different stages.

Following another high quality evening meal, the group once again joined the UCPA groups for a supervised entertainment session that started with a lip sync battle that evolved into a dance off (no winner declared!).

The recovery theme concluded with an early lights ahead of the final programme push, starting with the big Friday defence day with defence partners Shadowman Sports and more skill assessment and development.
