Personal Fitness Assessment & Planning

By February 20, 2019March 5th, 2019No Comments

Each PSA Rugby Academy programme includes an extensive gym-based range of standardised physical performance tests, all led by a fully qualified S&C coach with extensive rugby experience supported by the PSA sports interns and camp staff.

To deliver to their long-term rugby and physical potential, it is critical that underage players have the fundamentals in terms of physical literacy and fitness, with the relevant sessions within the programme designed to introduce, explain, practice and assess the performance in key areas and physical tests.

Rather than creating unhealthy competition or benchmarking between players of different ages, sizes or positions, our programme and the relevant sections of the Player Development Report take a player-centric view of each individual’s strengths and work ons.  The assessment process is designed to replicate elements of the age grade assessment that players may experience later in their rugby playing career.

As part of the Player Journal activity at each Academy, our coaching staff will be couraging players to review, assess and identify key themes/learnings from their physical testing and personal fitness development sessions.
