Tignes Rugby Academy Diary – Week 2, Day 1

By July 18, 2017No Comments

Tignes Rugby Academy, Week 2 saw a group of 41 French & Irish players arrive at UCPA Tignes. After the anticipation, it’s their turn to join the PSA Academies team for their stint of 7 day high performance rugby.

With all the excitement of arrival day banked (check in, meet & greet, games, dinner & induction meeting, first night in the shared rooms), the players started the day with a hearty nutritional breakfast.

Next stop was the Cantona pitch & extension for the videoed player assessment drills & skills training.  This is the first chance for allocated lead coach to run the rule over their bib colour-coded groups.  As you can imagine, it is all action! After the session, the players had a great opportunity to meet & pose with the Lyon Rugby Top 14 squad for a team picture.

After a well earned lunch, the players headed for the incredible swimming pool facility in Tignes Le Lac for the UCPA swimming assessment.  Once the test was done, the players had a great chance to bond on the indoor water slides.

On a fantastic 25 degree sunny day, the afternoon saw the players have the chance to relax lakeside in Tignes Le Lac, enjoying a mix of watersports.

After that, it was over to Tignespace for the player athletic testing led by our Strength & Conditioning coach Cathal Murtagh.  The tests are part of the full programme testing and reporting approach, helping young players to benchmark their physical condition and learn regarding age appropriate work on areas.

The evening started with some free time, followed by evening dinner in the UCPA canteen and then a fun evening activity led the UCPA staff.  The players headed off to bed happy and tired after a full on first day.  Little did they know that an early wake up was in store with a mandatory fire alarm test.

Welcome to Tignes Rugby Academy, Week 2 lads!
